Why should YOU lift weights?!

As you already know, I am a strong advocate for lifting! There has been such an evolution to lifting recently, especially for women and their health. It’s obvious that lifting is for EVERYONE, not just high-level athletes, body builders, or powerlifters.

Don’t believe me? I am here to tell you that there are so many benefits to weight lifting:

  1. Weight lifting burns MORE calories than cardio: Cardio burns more calories in real time during the workout, but people who weight train can BOOST their calorie burn throughout the day, unlike cardio training.

  2. Improves your learning and thinking: Engaging in weight lifting can enhance cognitive functions, including memory and problem-solving skills, by increasing blood flow to the brain and promoting the growth of new brain cells.

  3. Helps control blood sugar: Regular weight lifting can improve insulin sensitivity and help regulate blood sugar levels, which is particularly beneficial for individuals with type 2 diabetes or those at risk of developing it.

  4. Manages chronic health conditions: Weight lifting can help manage and alleviate symptoms of chronic conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, and obesity by improving overall physical health and reducing inflammation.

  5. Protects your joints: Strengthening the muscles around your joints through weight lifting can provide better support and stability, reducing the risk of joint injuries and alleviating pain from conditions like arthritis.

  6. Body Re-Composition: Losing fat is great, but building muscle helps shape your body! Weight lifting promotes muscle growth, which can lead to a more defined physique over time, even if the number on the scale doesn't change (muscle weighs more than fat).

  7. Supports weight loss: Building muscle through weight lifting increases your resting metabolic rate, meaning you burn more calories even when you’re not exercising, which supports long-term weight loss and maintenance.

  8. Protects bone health: Weight lifting stimulates bone growth and increases bone density, which can help prevent osteoporosis and reduce the risk of fractures, especially as you age.

  9. Improves your mood and mental health: The physical activity involved in weight lifting releases endorphins, which are natural mood lifters. It can also reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, providing a mental health boost.

  10. Improves your confidence: Achieving strength goals and seeing physical improvements can significantly boost your self-esteem and confidence, making you feel more empowered in various aspects of your life.

  11. Protects against injuries and falls: Strengthening your muscles and improving your balance through weight lifting can reduce the risk of injuries and falls, particularly important as you age.

  12. Enhances your quality of life: Overall, weight lifting can lead to better physical health, increased energy levels, and improved mental well-being, contributing to a higher quality of life.

While there are definitely more benefits to weight training, these are a great start to what you’ll experience by incorporating lifting into your routine!!
